SAN FRANCISCO, January 3, 2008 – The
Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused
on open standards and global interoperability within and
between enterprises, today announced that free registration
is open for its inaugural IT Specialist Conference, to be
held January 30, 2008 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

The demand for experienced IT Specialists continues to grow
in line with an increasing number of projects focused on
business and IT alignment at large global organizations.
Hundreds of thousands of IT Specialists serve in mission
critical capacities, yet until now there has been no global,
vendor-neutral conference series focused on the IT Specialist
and dedicated to developing awareness and appreciation for
the profession, nor worldwide standards established for assessing
qualifications.
The inaugural event will include keynotes, real-world case
studies and panel discussions featuring internationally-recognized
experts from Capgemini, EDS, IBM and other industry leaders.
Held in conjunction with The Open Group’s 17th Enterprise
Architecture Practitioners Conference, also at the Fairmont
Hotel in San Francisco, the event’s goal is to continue
The Open Group’s support and cultivation of the IT
Specialist Profession. Senior IT executives and managers;
human resources, procurement and project managers; and sales
and marketing professionals are all encouraged to attend
in order to gain a competitive advantage in motivating team
members, hiring the right people and becoming educated on
one of the industry’s fastest-growing professions.
“I am delighted to announce the inaugural IT Specialist
Conference as today’s specialists work within one of
the largest and fastest growing fields in the industry,” said
Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group. “This
industry-first conference series will serve as part of The
Open Group’s ongoing commitment to professionalism
and quality in the field. We encourage IT Specialists, as
well as those directly responsible for managing or hiring
them, to attend this agenda-setting event.”
