Press Releases
San Francisco, CA – February
9, 2003 – At its Open Standards and Certification
conference, The Open Group introduced TOGAF 8, a new version
of the certification program for The Open Group Architecture
Framework “Enterprise Edition.” The new certification
program enables architecture service providers and tools vendors
to demonstrate that their products and services support the
enterprise architect using TOGAF Version 8.
TOGAF 8, a detailed method and a set of supporting tools,
may be used under a free, perpetual license by any organization
wishing to develop enterprise architecture for use within
that organization. For service providers, a commercial license
is available.
The first companies that obtained certification include Popkin
Software & Systems, Frietuna Computer Consultants, Computas
AS, and Architecting-the-Enterprise. In addition, 16 individuals
were certified as TOGAF 8 Practitioners.
“Enterprise Architecture is growing in recognition as
a key discipline to ensure that the design and implementation
of enterprise-wide IT properly addresses and supports the
needs of the business,” said Allen Brown, President
and CEO of The Open Group. “The introduction of a certification
program for TOGAF 8 enables large organizations, in both private
and public sectors, to confidently use open methodology for
developing their architecture.”
As a comprehensive, open method for enterprise architecture,
TOGAF 8 complements and can be used in conjunction with other
frameworks.
"TOGAF 8 is a significant step forward in the evolution
of enterprise architecture throughout the world," said
Jan Popkin, CEO, Popkin Software. "Many organizations
are looking for a way to get their enterprise architecture
initiatives underway so they can better understand and control
their business-IT alignment. TOGAF 8 provides the methodology
to get started and to complete an enterprise architecture
project. Popkin Software is one of the first companies to
receive TOGAF 8 certification. We have customized our tool,
System Architect, including a methodology guide, to meet the
needs of any company choosing to use TOGAF 8."
In order to ensure TOGAF 8’s consistent application
and usage, The Open Group has introduced
- TOGAF 8 Training Certification
- TOGAF 8 Practitioner Certification
- TOGAF 8 Tool Support Certification
- TOGAF 8 Professional Services Certification
