SAN FRANCISCO, June 5, 2006 – The Open Group, a vendor-
and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards
and global interoperability within and between enterprises,
today announced that the number of individuals who have been
certified for The Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF™ 8,
has reached more than 1000 registered practitioners.
TOGAF is an industry standard architecture framework that
may be used freely by anyone wishing to develop an Enterprise
Architecture for use within their own organization. TOGAF
certification is an assurance program providing four classes
of certification: Certified (for individuals), Tool Support,
Training and Professional Services. It is used by architecture
service providers, tool vendors and individual enterprise
architects.
“I would like to congratulate all of the TOGAF 8 certified
practitioners, trainers and members of The Open Group Architecture
Forum who were instrumental in reaching this important program
milestone,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The
Open Group. “The fact that companies such as Bank of
Montreal, Hewlett-Packard, InfoSys Technologies Ltd., Johnson & Johnson,
and Raytheon have multiple groups of individuals TOGAF 8
certified speaks volumes about IT Architecture as a well-recognized
and increasingly important professional discipline.”
A recent report in the U.K. (www.itjobswatch.co.uk/jobs/uk/togaf.do)
cited salary increases for certified TOGAF practitioners
increasing at a 22 percent annual rate.
With TOGAF, customers can base their IT architecture on
an open, industry standard method, which works with all major
frameworks and can procure tools, training and the services
of consultants (individuals and integrators) with confidence
on the basis of certified conformance with an open consensus
standard. For service providers and tool vendors, the certification
provides a vehicle to clearly demonstrate that their services
and products support and use the TOGAF methodology.
TOGAF, The Open Group Architecture Framework, is an industry
standard architecture framework that may be used freely
by any organization wishing to develop an information systems
architecture for use within that organization.
TOGAF has been developed and continuously evolved since
the mid-90’s by representatives of some of the world’s
leading IT customer and vendor organizations, working in
The Open Group's Architecture Forum. Details of the Forum,
and its plans for evolving TOGAF in the current year, are
given on the Architecture Form Web site located here: http://www.opengroup.org/architecture/
