San Francisco, CA – February 7, 2006 – At the
opening of its IT Architecture Practitioners Conference – Barcelona
2006, The Open Group announced a new level of its IT Architect
                    Certification program (www.opengroup.org/itac), to complement
the existing Master Certified IT Architect level. The new
level will provide recognition for IT architects who are
currently in contributing roles and who might expect to qualify
for the Master level certification in the future.
Developed in response to industry demand, the IT Architect
Certification program defines a global set of standards for
measuring the skills and experience of IT architects and
creates a foundation for trust between suppliers and customers.
At the new level, practicing IT architects meeting the certification
criteria will be awarded the title Certified IT Architect,
complementing the existing level titled “Master Certified
IT Architect”. The Applicants will need to show that
they are able to perform as contributing architects, and
will be required to have a minimum of two years of experience
developing IT architectures under supervision, for example
through mentoring. The program for more senior architects
(who, when certified, carry the designation Master Certified
IT Architect) was introduced last year.
“Adding a complementary level certification represents
yet another step in The Open Group’s efforts to advance
the development and recognition of the IT Architect profession,” said
Allen Brown, the President and CEO of The Open Group. “By
offering a standard skills and experience based certification
to a larger pool of IT Architects, The Open Group provides
organizations with an industry-wide benchmark for selecting
highly qualified individuals for their teams, while offering
individuals a recognized, portable credential that enables
them to choose the best of the available positions.”
“The members of The Open Group have a real chance
to drive a new generation of business value by creating models,
standards and a new understanding of how the combination
of communication, information and transaction can be used
to optimize external interactions between businesses, what
Capgemini calls the 'Collaborative Business Experience',” said
Andy Mulholland, Global CTO of Capgemini. “Capgemini
joins with other members in a commitment to work together,
share and support initiatives to make this a reality.”

The IT Architect Certification program is the premier, global
certification program for certifying skills and experience
in the enterprise IT architecture community. It was developed
by members of The Open Group in response to the growing
demand for highly experienced IT Architects with a proven
                      track record of success.
The program offers certification at two levels: Certified
IT Architect level and Master Certified IT Architect. IT
architects who wish to be certified at either level will
need to meet the required levels of experience and skill
for their level, and will be interviewed by a peer panel.
Upon certification, they will be entitled to use an official
certification mark as an indication of their status, and
will be listed for public reference in the Certification
Directory maintained by The Open Group.
The certification can be achieved in two ways: either by
applying directly to The Open Group, or by going through
a certification program that has been accredited by The Open
Group. Any third party IT architect certification or professional
development program is eligible for assessment and, subject
to meeting the requirements, an Accreditation. The skill
and experience requirements are the same for both Direct
Certification via The Open Group and Indirect Certification
                    through an Accredited third-party program.

The initial certification cost for the Certified IT Architect
level is the same as for the Master Certified IT Architect
level: $1,250 per individual, with a subsequent $175 annual
renewal fee, and a $625 recertification fee every 3 years.
