SAN FRANCISCO, June 10, 2008 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced that its 19th Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference will be held July 21-23, 2008 at the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. This event will feature a special focus on the core elements needed for creating and implementing a Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA).
The Open Group’s Architecture Practitioners Conferences are globally recognized events created for and by enterprise architects to examine the issues and topics that are currently affecting the profession.  The Chicago event will examine the architecture requirements needed to create a framework for real-time decision making and policy implementation across numerous government departments and agencies.
Plenary sessions for the each of the conference’s three days include Frameworks for Federated Architectures, Architecting Government Services, and Architecting Secure Information Delivery.  The entire event will include a combination of end-user case studies, thought-leader keynote speeches, panel sessions and technical tutorials, all aimed at providing solutions to the challenges of implementing an effective GEA.   In addition to the GEA-focused plenary sessions, conference attendees will also be able to attend tracks focused on deploying an enterprise-wide Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and implementing TOGAF™ as part of an enterprise architecture, as well as sessions devoted to the enterprise architect profession and security.
“Local, national and regional governments are facing a number of challenges in achieving joined-up government and delivering services to their citizens. Effective Government Enterprise Architecture is a critical component in realizing what we know as boundaryless information flow,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group.   “We’re pleased to be able to bring together professionals in government, industry enterprises and vendors to focus on this important subject area at our Chicago conference.”
