Press Releases
San Francisco, CA March 11, 2004
– The Open Group has been selected by a group of more
than a dozen companies to provide management services for
a planned industry-wide consortium that will accelerate the
availability of network-centric solutions to foreign and domestic
customers.
With an expected launch during the second quarter of 2004,
the consortium will be open and inclusive, thus enabling best-of-industry
technology and practice to be adopted. The consortium will
select industry-led open standards to define a common architectural
approach to interoperability that is fully compliant with
the needs of government and industry.
This selection of The Open Group is a critical step toward
establishing the consortium as an official, fully open membership
entity by ensuring it is operated by a non-affiliated, third
party organization. Selection criteria focused on The Open
Group’s track record in operating open consensus processes,
its Architecture Development Method, its relevant industry
and subject knowledge, and its partner, Kavi’s consortia
management infrastructure and collaborative environment tools.
The stated vision of the consortium is: “Industry, working
together, to provide our customers a net-centric environment
where all classes of information systems interoperate by integrating
existing and emerging open standards into a common evolving
global framework that employs a common set of principles and
processes.”
The participating companies are currently formalizing a framework
that will formally establish the consortium and provide a
vehicle for inclusion of interested companies to join and
actively participate.
