SAN FRANCISCO, December 12, 2007 – The
Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused
on open standards and global interoperability within and
between enterprises, and the Network Applications Consortium
(NAC) today jointly announced a partnership as the NAC ends
its charter. Recognizing NAC’s years of valuable influence
over enterprise application technologies, and past collaborations
both on joint standards work (Common Core Identifiers) and
in presentations in Open Group Conferences, The Open Group
has extended an invitation for NAC members to join its Security
Forum. The Open Group will benefit from the expertise of
the former NAC members, who are security professionals on
both the customer and supply sides of industry, government
and academia.
Sixteen years ago a number of organizations joined forces
and formed the Network Applications Consortium to address
relevant technical issues affecting organizations. The group’s
goal was to influence vendors in a number of areas, spanning
virtual-enterprise application and infrastructure technologies.
NAC has a successful track record in fulfilling this mission,
and now seeks to evolve to bring the organization’s
critical lessons learned and expertise to other industry
influencers. It recognizes The Open Group as the ideal home
where it can achieve these objectives.
The Open Group Security Forum works to raise industry confidence
levels by defining technical standards and guidelines to
counter the whole range of security risks and vulnerabilities,
and also addresses business and technology perspectives in
its Manager’s and Technical Guides. The Forum covers
all aspects of information security in open systems environments
in order to deliver secure interoperable solutions in today’s
globally networked business world where mobile and wireless
connectivity raise new challenges.
“Over the years the NAC has been instrumental in providing
industry insights and influencing vendors for the next generation
enterprise technologies and infrastructure,” said George
Dobbs, information systems architect, Knights of Columbus,
and chairman, NAC. “With the NAC officially ending
its charter, we are we are looking forward to being able
to collaborate with The Open Group and its Security Forum.
This is a great opportunity to be involved in the evolution
of security within today’s global technology industry.”
“The Open Group’s Security Forum values the
significant contributions that NAC has made over the years
and is delighted to extend invitations to their members,” said
Ian Dobson, director, Security Forum, The Open Group. “The
Security Forum has in the past few years become increasingly
focused on activities oriented towards secure IT architectures
and frameworks, best practices and governance. Former NAC
members will be a valuable asset to this group, as they provide
years of valuable insight into all things related to enterprise
applications and security.”
