TOGAF 8 Certification Establishes Market Leadership
Certification Surpasses 5,500 Registered Practitioners; Experiences 230 Percent Growth over Previous Year

SAN FRANCISCO, April 16, 2008 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced that the number of individuals who have been certified for The Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF™ 8, has reached more than 5,500 registered practitioners. This reflects an increase of approximately 230 percent compared to the number of practitioners certified in TOGAF during the previous year.

In addition, a recent U.K.-based report, conducted by ITJobsWatch (http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/jobs/uk/togaf.do), cited salary increases for certified TOGAF practitioners increasing at an annual rate or more than 21 percent. According to the same survey, over 50 percent of permanent IT jobs in the U.K. include TOGAF as a required skill set. Furthermore, average salaries for TOGAF-certified individuals increased by approximately six percent in 2008 over the previous year, while average compensation fell more than eight percent for people with certification and skills in other architecture frameworks.

TOGAF is used by over 80 percent of the Forbes Global Top 50 companies, and has emerged as the definitive framework among Enterprise Architects for developing information systems architectures. TOGAF certification is an assurance program based on the standard, providing four classes of certification: Certified (for individuals), Tool Support, Training and Professional Services. The certification is used by architecture service providers, solutions vendors and individual enterprise architects.

Entering the second quarter of 2008, TOGAF and TOGAF Certification have achieved the following milestones:

  • 5,597 individuals have achieved TOGAF Certification
  • A total of 41,375 copies of TOGAF have been downloaded
  • TOGAF is used by over 80 percent of the Forbes Global 50 and over 70 percent of the Fortune 50

“In the last couple of years TOGAF has emerged as the de facto standard for developing and implementing Enterprise and IT architecture worldwide,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group. “On behalf of The Open Group, I would like to thank all of the certified practitioners and their trainers who have made TOGAF's success a reality. Today's milestone along with the ITJobsWatch findings both validate the continued importance that professional architects and their employers are placing on this standard.”
