Capgemini and NEC Join Other Industry Leaders as Platinum Members of The Open Group

New York, NY – July 18, 2005 – The Open Group, a vendor and technology-neutral consortium dedicated to enterprise interoperability, and a premier forum for technology leaders and influencers, announced today that Capgemini and NEC joined other industry leaders, IBM, HP, Fujitsu, Hitachi, and Sun Microsystems, and became Platinum Members of The Open Group.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Capgemini and NEC into The Open Group as Platinum Members,” said Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group. “Their participation will provide great value to The Open Group membership and to our focus on interoperability in the enterprise, which is enabled by IT architecture.”

As Platinum Members, NEC and Capgemini will be joining The Open Group’s Governing Board and will help direct the overall strategy and vision of the organization. In addition to their commitment as new leaders of the organization, NEC and Capgemini will help drive the vision of Boundaryless Information Flow™. Both companies bring to The Open Group the expertise of industry leaders in innovation and enterprise integration.

Capgemini will contribute immediately to The Open Group as co-supporter of The Open Group’s new IT Architect Certification program (http://www.opengroup.org/itac), which is being announced today, July 18, 2005. NEC, an active member of the Architecture Forum, has contributed to defining TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) and will contribute to popularize TOGAF in Japan.

“Capgemini is excited to take an active role in The Open Group’s initiatives,” said Andy Mulholland, Global CTO, Capgemini. “Enterprise interoperability is a number one issue for today’s businesses. Joining The Open Group and working with other industry leaders on standards that will enable an interoperable future supports Capgemini’s overall strategy of helping clients target and create value, manage and mitigate risk, optimize capabilities and align the organization through collaboration and partnership. “

“NEC’s vision is ‘Providing solution of genuine value by means of innovations’”, said Koichi Ikumi, Senior Vice President, NEC Corporation. “We are now seeing the arrival of the Ubiquitous Computing age. Lots of new technologies are being developed to achieve this. NEC is expanding its business to the IT Network integration and Software Integration fields. To realize the Ubiquitous age, it is extremely important to listen to the end users’ voice, define and promote the standards and assure interoperability. I believe The Open Group plays an important role in these areas. By becoming a board member of The Open Group, NEC can share its vision and support its activities. I hope NEC can contribute to The Open Group and be a real driving force realizing the new age.”
