THE OPEN GROUP HOLDS “PRIVACY AND THE GLOBAL ENTERPRISE” CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY NCR

Two-Day Conference To Feature International Privacy Experts, Including:

 MONTREAL, Canada (July 19, 1999) – The Open Group, a vendor and technology neutral consortium dedicated to enterprise integration, begins a two-day conference today which will address information technology (IT) privacy issues from legal and technical points-of-view.   The conference, being held in the Wyndham Hotel in Montreal, Canada, will explore privacy from the perspective of developing corporate, national and international policies.   Speakers will also discuss how to implement privacy policies from a practical point-of-view.

The program features distinguished international experts on privacy, including Peter Swire, Chief Counselor for Privacy, U.S. Office of Management and Budget; Stephanie Perrin, Director of Privacy Policy, Industry Canada, Government of Canada; Valerie Taylor, Senior Lawyer, Intellectual Property and Technology Division, UK Post Office Legal Services.  The keynote speakers will examine national and international policy issues, and enterprise policy goals and objectives as well as whether legislation of privacy policy is necessary or whether industry self-regulation will be sufficient to protect privacy rights.  Technical experts will also examine how to implement privacy policies by highlighting implementation strategies, obstacles and open standards. 

The conference also includes a wide range of influential speakers from international and national companies including, Reid Watts, Vice President, Advanced Technology, NCR, John Sabo, Manager, Security Strategy and Business Development, IBM Network Computing Software Division; Don Gilbert, Retail Privacy Council, Information Technology Council, National Retail Federation; and Mike Jerbic, Research & Development Project Manager for HP-UX OS Security, Hewlett Packard.
