The Open Group Announces “Dependability through Assuredness” Event
Meeting’s Goal is to Develop Standard Approach for Testing Distributed, Real-Time Systems

SAN FRANCISCO, April 20, 2007 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced that the organization’s Real-time and Embedded Systems Forum will host a two-day open meeting addressing the topic, “Dependability through Assuredness,” in Paris, France on April 23-25, 2007 at the Hilton Paris Hotel.  This event is co-located with The Open Group’s 12th Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference (APC) on those dates.

The goal of this meeting is to develop a standardized approach to quality assurance through the use of certified, interoperable tools to support a distributed, real-time test bed for testing, certification and accreditation of systems and components. This approach will incorporate various methods of assurance testing, which will support a system, or system-of-systems, for the following:  software quality; security; information assurance; requirements traceability; interoperability; quality of service; aggregated real-time performance; modeling and simulation; formal methods proof; and artifact generation based on current best practices for mission and safety-critical systems.

“This event is designed to bring together the best and brightest people to share their IT knowledge on testing environments and required tools in an effort to help Enterprise Architects pave the right way forward across every enterprise,” said Joseph Bergmann, director, Real-time and Embedded Systems Forum, The Open Group.  “It is our goal to provide a setting where open standards and approaches can be developed and adopted by our constituents and used in a way to achieve Boundaryless Information Flow™.”

The Open Group has invited experts from a wide variety of domains to delineate their certification and accreditation requirements, including but not limited to aviation, medical devices (including sensors such as RFID), manufacturing, space exploration and homeland security.  To achieve consensus on emerging open standards in this domain, the Real-time and Embedded Systems Forum have also invited participation from a broad base of stakeholders including BMW, Daimler Chrysler, European Space Agency and Kestrel Technology.

Assurance/Formal Methods experts in attendance will include David Monniaux, researcher of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS); Professor Samuel Redwine, James Madison University; Dr. John Anton, Kestrel Technology; Dr. John Rushby, Stanford Research Institute; and Mr. Kazuaki Minami, senior research project director, Automotive Software Platform and Development Process, Toyota-ITC.
