Document Addresses Relationship Between Enterprise Architecture and SOA
AUSTIN, ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE PRACTITIONERS CONFERENCE, July 24, 2007 – The
Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open
standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises,
today announced the general availability of a new whitepaper on the topic
of service-oriented architecture (SOA). Written by The Open Group’s
SOA Working Group, the whitepaper’s intent is to communicate the
relationship of SOA to other styles of enterprise architecture, and in
particular to The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF™). In
addition, the paper offers a definition of SOA and discusses its importance
to realizing Boundaryless Information Flow ™.
SOA is an architectural style that has recently come to
prominence. The Open Group has a long history of providing
support for enterprise architects, notably through ongoing
development and maintenance of TOGAF. The whitepaper serves
as a framework for the SOA Working Group’s future agenda
and is available for free download here: http://www.opengroup.org/bookstore/catalog/w074.htm.
“The SOA Working Group brings the industry’s
best and brightest SOA practitioners together and provides
organizations with a vendor and technology-neutral setting
to achieve key SOA consensus,” said Dr. Christopher
J. Harding, forum director for SOA and Semantic Interoperability
at The Open Group. “This whitepaper is a great resource
for individuals who are currently using SOA or planning to
incorporate it into their organizations. We look forward
to continuing our work to raise awareness of what’s
possible with SOA.”
The Open Group is a vendor-neutral and technology-neutral
consortium, which drives the creation of Boundaryless Information
Flow™ that will enable access to integrated information
within and between enterprises based on open standards
and global interoperability. The Open Group works with
customers, suppliers, consortia and other standard bodies.
Its role is to capture, understand and address current
and emerging requirements, establish policies and share
best practices; to facilitate interoperability, develop

and to operate the industry’s premier certification
