SAN FRANCISCO, May 27, 2008 – The Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects (AOGEA) today announced that membership in the organization has topped 5,250 since launching last year. The body was formed with support from The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, to advance the profession by helping to develop and enforce standards of excellence and ethics for all members. Currently, seven regional chapters exist globally, throughout the US, India, Canada, and Australia.
In recent years Enterprise Architecture has emerged as one of the most important professions around the world. The Association is committed to enhancing the careers of members through promoting its value to employers, general advocacy and education within the industry, and peer networking at local chapter meetings and international events. In addition, the Association aims to address the need for both large and small businesses and public sector organizations to embrace industry standards as a basis for assuring the skills and capabilities of their enterprise architects. For example, certified individuals in both The Open Group Architecture Framework, or TOGAF™, and IT Architecture (ITAC) are eligible for membership, as this is a complementary organization for their certification achievements and personal and professional goals. By supporting and co-promoting these certification standards, the Association aims to provide employers with enterprise architects whose skills are based on recognized best practices and transferable between companies.
“There is a need for an ongoing network among enterprise and IT architects that is focused on best practices and thought leadership,” said Harikrishna S Aravapalli, BI CoE , SETLabs.  “This can be achieved by having a common set of professional standards which are well guided by an experienced body; and is exactly where AOGEA comes in to support its members.”
“AOGEA has been enthusiastically welcomed as a worthwhile initiative for and by the architectural professionals in Australasia,” said Vish Viswanathan, managing principal, C C & C Solutions.  “It fills in an essential need to connect, communicate and collaborate in the emerging enterprise architecture space. Championed by a committed team of founding members globally, we are confident that the Association will continue to be a great success.”

“The AOGEA Michigan Chapter plans to elevate the knowledge and expertise of its members, and improve the Enterprise Architecture profession by knowledge sharing, fostering best practices and networking events,” said Suresh Done, chair and founder, AOGEA-Michigan.  “Facilitating discussion and debate over critical challenges in the field, especially related to the application of TOGAF, will be one of the chapter’s primary goals. We will also focus on raising awareness of the TOGAF and ITAC certification programs in order to help advance our members’ careers.”

“Membership in The Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects continues to benefit me as well as my employer and clients,” said Jason Uppal, chief architect, QRS. “The Association not only supports my personal goals, but membership also demonstrates that as an Enterprise Architect I adhere to globally recognized ethics and standards for enterprise architecture excellence. In turn, my employer is able to showcase my professional experience and affiliations to clients, as assurance that they will be receiving the highest quality of support as they accomplish their enterprise architecture goals.”
“This is an exciting milestone, and a great example of the Association members’ unwavering commitment and hard work to raise the level of professionalism in the field,” said Allen Brown, chairman of the Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects. “The contributions of the founding chapters and more than 5,000 AOGEA members around the world will no doubt continue to have a very positive impact on the profession as well as the industry at large. I look forward to watching the Association’s progress in 2008 and beyond.”
