The Open Group Announces "All-User" Web Services Conference
Tim Berners-Lee To Keynote on July 22;
Theme of Sessions Reflects Consortium's Vision of "Boundaryless Information
Flow"
San Francisco, CA - May 28, 2002 - Spotlighting the user perspective
on Web Services, The Open Group has announced its roster of speakers and
agenda for "Boundaryless Information Flow:
The Role of Web Services", to be held in Boston July 22-26. Tim
Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and Director of W3C, will
open plenary sessions by discussing the rationale and progress towards
the Semantic Web.
Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group, expressed the impetus
behind this major conference: "For many years, enterprises have worked
to create a boundaryless information flow that enables them to deliver
more products and services to their customers. The vision of The Open
Group is the achievement of Boundaryless Information Flow through global

Other highlights of the conference include:
- Simon Pugh, MasterCard International's Vice President of Standards
and Infrastructure, is among the senior executives from Fortune 500
companies who will share their experiences planning and integrating
Web Services into their extended enterprises. The presentations of these
case studies will be available to media immediately following the plenary
session.
- Ted Schadler, Group Director of Forrester Research, Inc. will give
a business analyst's view of "The Truth about Web Services."
His address will summarize the motivation for this new approach to applications
integration and review what is an appropriate approach to deployment.
- Consortia engaged in the evolution of a comprehensive set of standards
for Web Services will discuss their individual contributions and show
how their work fits together. Speakers include:
- Patrick Gannon, President, OASIS
- Steve Bratt, COO, World Wide Web Consortium
- Richard Soley, Chairman & CEO, Object Management Group
- Carl Reed, Director of Spec. Programs, Open GIS Consortium
- Ron Schmelzer, Founder and Senior Analyst, ZapThink, will outline
the Web Services standards and technology space in a talk entitled:
"Service-Oriented Integration: The Integration Zipper". This
will focus on the issue of technology deployment in the light of an
evolving set of standards.
- With security a central concern for deployment of Web Services outside
the corporate firewall, Daniel Geer, CTO of specialist security consultancy
@stake, will look at the areas of vulnerability and the current initiatives
and proposals that are addressing these.
