SAN FRANCISCO, October 29, 2007 – The
Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused
on open standards and global interoperability within and
between enterprises, today announced that HSBC has joined
other IT industry leaders, Capgemini, EDS, HP, IBM, and NEC,
as a Platinum Member of the organization.
“HSBC shares in The Open Group’s vision of global
interoperability and is very excited to work alongside other
industry leaders to shape the future of enterprise architecture
and information security,” said Peter Cook, head of
group IT at HSBC. “We will be very actively involved
in both the Architecture and Security forums, and in the
ongoing development of the IT Architect Certification IT
Specialist Certification programs. We see global standards
for certifying the skills and experience of the various IT
professions as pivotal to regulatory compliance.”
As a Platinum Member, HSBC will be participating mainly
in The Open Group’s Architecture and Security Forums
to help advance the work of these groups. The Architecture
Forum developed and continues to evolve The Open Group Architecture
Framework (TOGAF™), an industry standard that may be
used freely by any organization wishing to develop its own
in-house information systems architecture. The Open Group
Security Forum strives to deliver secure interoperable solutions
by defining standards and guidelines to prevent security
breaches and vulnerabilities while raising industry confidence
in today’s globally networked business world. It focuses
on activities surrounding security architectures and frameworks,
best practices and governance, while also providing support
for identity and authentication research. In the immediate
future the Security Forum will engage the accounting and
legal communities as it continues work on a framework for
information-centric security governance.
“We are very excited to welcome HSBC into The Open
Group as a Platinum Member,” said Allen Brown, president & CEO
of The Open Group. “As one of the world’s leading
financial institutions, their experience and influence will
provide great value to other members of The Open Group and
our efforts to achieve Boundaryless Information Flow through
open standards and global interoperability.”
