The Open Group Unveils First-Ever Conference Series for IT Specialists
Debut Event Will Be Held in San Francisco on January 28, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO, October 30, 2007 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced the debut of a new conference series devoted to the IT specialist profession. A preeminent IT event producer, The Open Group is entering its fifth year of producing the global Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference series. The inaugural IT Specialist Conference will be held in San Francisco on January 28, 2008 at the Fairmont Hotel, in conjunction with the 17th Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference.

Through panel discussions, practical and career sessions and peer-to-peer networking, the event will continue The Open Group’s support and cultivation of the IT Specialist profession. The San Francisco conference serves as the inaugural event of the IT Specialist Certification (ITSC) program, following on the heels of its formation in September (see press release dated Sept. 17, 2007: http://www.opengroup.org/comm/press/17sep07.htm). The ITSC program offers the first independent, comprehensive, global certification for determining the skills, experience and knowledge of professional specialists within several different technical focus areas.

“The IT specialist profession is one of the largest and fastest growing careers in the industry,” said Allen Brown, president and CEO of The Open Group. “We’re looking forward to providing a forum for programmers, developers, testers, IT trainers and technology consultants to learn about developments within the field while growing their own skills.”
