"Works With LDAP 2000" Plugfest Provides Forum Of Interoperability

Vendors Find Business Benefits Of Directory-Enabled Application Interoperability

September 7, 2001 - Menlo Park, CA There has been a marked increase in the number of certified products and applications for directory-enabled applications since the start of The Open Group's LDAP Plugfest in July. The applications were certified in The Open Group's "Works With LDAP 2000" program. Directory vendors Computer Associates, Critical Path, IBM, iPlanet, Microsoft, Novell, OpenLDAP and Oracle attended the event.

The LDAP Plugfest was designed to promote the use of open industry standards by assuring the interoperability of software from directory and directory application vendors. The event allowed vendors to meet and confidentially test their applications' interoperability with a variety of LDAP servers. The increased reliability and market value of plug-and-play systems is designed to provide customers more reliable, better choices.

At the Plugfest, nine directory-enabled application vendors tested their products against eight LDAP server implementations. As a result of the Plugfest, new applications from Hewlett-Packard, Metamerge, Peoplesoft, and SAP all achieved "Works With LDAP 2000" certification.

"The Open Group is pleased to sponsor the LDAP Plugfest," said Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group. "Providing a confidential forum for vendors to achieve the interoperability of LDAP directories and applications with the goal of achieving Works With LDAP 2000 Certification is at the core of The Open Group's mission."

The server vendors present included all four organizations that have the Open Brand for LDAP 2000; Critical Path, Netscape, Novell, and Oracle. The Plugfest has provided a significant increase in the number of interoperable products for buyers, and expectations are high that future Plugfest meetings will provide a similar opportunity for vendors to test their applications and increase the number of available interoperable applications.
