February 2009 saw the global launch of the much anticipated TOGAF™ 9, and on the 25th of February the Southern African region had a big party to celebrate the occasion!

A panel of reviewers and participants who helped to finalize the specification made up the formal part of the event. They discussed the new version of the standard and specifically highlighted the new enhancements within the specification, including:
- A modular structure that makes it easier for an architect to find their way
- A content framework
- A new section on Guidelines and Techniques
- An architecture capability framework
- Enhancements to Phases E and F
- A new certification mechanism
The panel, facilitated by Sarina Viljoen from The Open Group, consisted of Peter van Hoof (Sasol), Ian Prinsloo (HSBC), Stuart Macgregor (Real IRM), Alvin Paules (SAP), Ken Hales (Eskom), Grant Faber (Real IRM) and Paul van der Merwe (Real IRM).
After the formal presentation, awards were presented to companies that participated in the regional TOGAF 9 reviews in South Africa. Those companies receiving awards included: Eskom, Telkom SA, Sasol, Letsema Consulting and Real IRM, each of which participated in reviews of the specification. Paul van der Merwe was also recognized for his participation in the development of the specification.
The Johannesburg event took place at Summer Place in Hyde Park and a two-man band and magician entertained the guests while they enjoyed champagne cocktail hour. On the following morning, a breakfast launch session was held in Cape Town, followed by a panel discussion on the enhancements to the specification.
