Presentation 1 - Tuesday plenary

EA and SOA: Allies or Opponents?
Many architects are increasingly coming to the realization that Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an approach to, or style of EA. Furthermore, as SOA best practices gradually become mainstream, they are merging with more traditional EA best practices into a generally Service-oriented approach to EA.

At least, that's what some people think. Ask senior Enterprise Architects with 20 years of experience under their belts, however, and they may disagree vehemently. What is it about SOA that threatens the "traditional" practice of EA? Why are some EAs so dead set against adopting SOA broadly as Enterprise Architecture? And most importantly, how do you get your EAs on board with your SOA efforts, both to increase success of SOA as well as to make EA more effective?

This session will provide specific advice on how to overcome such issues, including:

* how to bring senior EAs up to speed on how SOA impacts the practice of EA
* how to place EAs' resistance to change into the context of corporate culture
* questions to ask your EA to emphasize EA/SOA synergies
